Germany has issued a statement to clarify President William Ruto's claims of 250,000 job opportunities for Kenyans.

Ruto told DW, Germany’s state broadcaster, that one of the deals signed between Kenya and Germany would unlock 250,000 job opportunities for Kenyans.

‘’One of them is the agreement we signed, this agreement will unlock 250,000 job opportunities for young people from Kenya. That is a bilateral agreement between Germany and Kenya,’’ Ruto told DW.

However, on Saturday, the German government denied claims that Kenya had secured a deal for over 250,000 jobs in Germany following Ruto's visit.

Germany’s Interior Ministry dismissed the BBC World report, stating that the information about the 250,000 jobs was false and that the agreement did not include specific job numbers.

"This information is clearly false. The agreement between Germany and Kenya does not include any numbers or quotas of skilled workers who will have the opportunity to work in Germany. All applicants must fulfil the strict requirements of the German Skilled Immigration Act," the ministry said in a statement on X.

State House Kenya confirmed that Kenya secured a deal with Germany during a meeting at the Chancellery in Berlin.

However, the statement did not include the controversial numbers related to the deal, which had been anticipated to be part of the announcement.

Why Ruto was in Germany

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Ruto would be visiting Germany for two days to explore new job opportunities for Kenyans.

Ruto also attended the annual Citizen’s Festiva, where Kenya is honoured as the profile partner country and the first non-European country to be selected for the role.

The visit was meant to strengthen economic ties, promoting investment in key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and the creative economy.
