NOCK chief executive officer (CEO) Gideon Ole Morintat said it would collaborate with Kenya Pipeline and Saudi Aramco to produce and package LPG for Kenyans.

"We will ensure 8.5 million cylinders are distributed to low-income households in the country. We are running a programme to provide subsidised LPG cylinders to Kenyans at a price of KSh 2,000," the CEO stated, as reported by the government newspaper My Gov.

Morintat said he will work with energy stakeholders to identify beneficiaries nationwide.

What was William Ruto's promise on LPG cylinders?

In May 2023, President William Ruto said cooking gas cylinders would cost KSh 300 to KSh 500.

Ruto said the tax collected on kerosene will be used to subsidise cooking gas cylinder prices.

He said the government was fighting rogue players in the gas industry to remove illegal gas cylinder fillers from the market.

Ruto promises to lower gas prices

In March 2023, the president promised to lower cooking gas prices by removing value-added tax on LPG.

Ruto assured Kenyans that the government was keen to eliminate all cartels in Kenya's gas industry.

He said eliminating wood fuel would also help Kenya restore its environment by reducing the number of trees being cut for wood fuel.

In a separate event on Friday, February 24, 2023, during the launch of Taifa Gas at Dogo Kundu, the head of state said every household will have cooking gas.

He tasked the Ministry of Energy with ensuring that cooking gas was made available to Kenyan households at a subsidised price within three years.
