Gov't Instructs Universities To Admit All First-Year Students: "None To Be Turned Back"

• The Ministry of Education has said no prospective student will miss admission to their respective universities next month
• CS Julius Ogamba instructed vice-chancellors to facilitate the admission of the scholars regardless of their household status and ability to pay fees
• Ogamba's directive came in the wake of concerns about the new education funding model, which has been faulted for inequality

Public universities are under the government's directive to admit all students offered places in institutions of higher learning.

The new funding model left prospective students and their parents in disarray, with concerns that extremely needy cases would miss out on reasonable funding.

But in a communique addressed to vice-chancellors, the Ministry of Education directed all students to get admission regardless of their household capacity to pay for fees and tuition.

It assured the students that none would miss admission regardless of their households' incapability to pay the fees.

"All students who have qualified for university admission are guaranteed a place in their chosen institutions, irrespective of their ability to immediately pay the household contribution. Vice-chancellors of public universities have, therefore, been directed to admit all qualified students without exception," read the circular.
