Journalist Studying Abroad Dies In Grisly Road Crash After Returning Home

Tanzania- The journalism community is in mourning following the death of Tanzanian scribe Michael Sikapundwa, who was killed in a grisly road accident.

How did the accident that killed Sikapundwa happen?

Sikapundwa died after his car was involved in an accident while he was driving alone in Morogoro, Tanzania, just months after returning from China, where he had been studying.

A report by Modern Ghana stated that at the time of his death, Sikapundwa was serving as Vice President of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ), East Africa region.

The journalist's body was taken to Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital for preservation.

Sikapundwa had initially worked for the Guardian Newspaper in Tanzania.

How did Congress of Africa journalists react?

According to Delreport, the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ) extended its condolences to the family of the late journalist.

"Our hearts are saddened by the loss of our fellow member and CAJ leader Micheal Sikapundwa, the Tanzanian journalist," CAJ stated in a press conference in Nigeria.

Journalist Dickens Wasonga dies in Kisumu road accident

Back in the country, the fourth estate was mourning the tragic passing of a colleague following an accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega road.

Dickens Wasonga, who was attached to Radio Africa Group's The Star newspaper in Kisumu, died after he rammed into a trailer along Mamboleo highway on Friday, January 26.

During the morning crash, the scribe was reportedly driving alone when he hit the trailer and died on the spot.

Wasonga was the newly elected chairperson of the Kisumu Journalists Network.

According to the WhatsApp chat in one of the media groups, the dedicated journalist last typed asking fellow scribes to pray for the journalists who had been censured by the Media Council of Kenya(MCK).

Wasonga left behind a young wife and two children.

His body was transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue.
