"In preparation for the potential strike action scheduled for Monday, August 19, 2024, the authority has put necessary contingency measures in place to ensure that airport operations continue without any disruptions.
"We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of service for all passengers and stakeholders at all our airport facilities across the country," read the statement in part.

The authority revealed that it is currently, together with the Ministry of Roads and Transport and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, engaging the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) in discussion to reach an amicable agreement.

What airport workers said about the JKIA-Adani deal

KAWU accused Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) of planning to strike a deal with Adani Airport Holdings, saying it would lead to the sector's shutdown.

The union secretary general Moses Ndiema called on the KAA managing director to resign; failure to, they will call for industrial action.

Ndiema revealed that this, alongside increased levies, could affect businesses, leading to job losses.

What to know about Adani's proposal to run JKIA

The government admitted receiving Adani Airport Holdings proposal to run JKIA for 30 years.

Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi said KAA received the public-private partnership (PPP) proposal in March 2024.

According to Adani Group's concessional agreement with the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the government will receive over KSh 6 billion out of its profit in the first year of operation.
