Kenya Airways (KQ), Kenya's national carrier, has advertised several job openings and invited qualified candidates to submit their applications.

The airline advertised the vacancies on its website and asked applicants to apply through its career portal by Thursday, September 19.

"If you fit the profile, then apply today. Please submit a copy of your detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) here only. Due to the volume of applications that we receive, only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Kenya Airways is an equal-opportunity employer," it stated.

Career counsellor Simon Ingari advised job seekers to keep their CVs short, at most two pages.

He noted hiring managers have no time to peruse bulky documents.

"A lengthy resume can be daunting and is less likely to be viewed in its entirety. Irrelevant stuff you include to make your CV long might, in most cases, work against you. These include hobbies, date of birth, religion and ID," he told TUKO.co.ke.

Which jobs did KQ announce?

1. Manager - regional freighter

Qualifications:

  • University graduate in business-related area of study.
  • Five years of work experience in aviation.

2. Safety and compliance officer

Qualifications:

  • Graduate engineer from a recognised university (mechanical, aeronautical, electrical/electronics).
  • At least three years of work experience: One year in aviation safety management and two years in aircraft maintenance.

3. Quality assurance engineer

Qualifications:

  • Graduate engineer from a recognised university (mechanical, aeronautical, electrical/electronics).
  • Knowledge of using standard aircraft manuals and engineering procedures manuals.

4. Quality assurance engineer (QAE)

Qualifications:

  • Graduate engineer from a recognised university (mechanical, aeronautical, electrical/electronics).
  • Must have completed quality management system (QMS) training and audit techniques training.

5. Senior planning engineer

Qualifications:

  • Graduate engineer from a recognised university (mechanical, aeronautical, electrical/electronics).
  • At least five years of relevant experience in maintenance/engineering.

6. Quality assurance coordinator flight operations

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in a related field.
  • At least three years of work experience in aircraft maintenance, flight, or ground operations.

7. Senior data scientist

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science or related degree.
  • Machine and programme learning skills.

Why are KQ workers on strike?

In other news, hundreds of passengers were stranded at JKIA as airport workers went on strike over the proposed Adani Group takeover.

The strike, which began at midnight on Wednesday, September 11, disrupted travel plans for many passengers. Videos of the chaos were widely circulated online.

Airport workers, represented by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), protested the potential leasing of JKIA to India's Adani Group.
