Speaking at Beirut Restaurant in Nairobi on Sunday, September 8, the student leaders urged the government to engage in bilateral discussions before the controversial model is implemented.

The move came a few hours after Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba said his ministry is setting up two committees to engage students and other stakeholders in the new controversial model.

"In order to allow room for this open consultative process, the university student leadership is requested to call off the demonstrations scheduled for September 9, 2024. This will afford the student community the chance to contribute effectively to issues pertaining to their higher education, while also progressing with their studies without disruption," CS Ogamba said.

2. The Standard

The publication reported on the nightmare that parents of Hillside Endarasha Academy are undergoing following the fire incident that left 21 pupils dead.

By Sunday, September 8, the government was still struggling to determine the whereabouts of the missing learners; distraught parents pitched a tent at the school in the hope of finding answers.

Travis Kariuki, an orphan whose parents died when he was only three months old, is among 46 pupils who can't be accounted for after the fire.

The 12-year-old pupil, who was in Grade 7, was enlisted at the school in pre-primary and called the school his second home.

His guardian, an uncle, is restless and unsettled as he keeps visiting the institution, seeking a response on the whereabouts of the pupil, who only knows and regards him as his father.

"His mother passed away after suffering leukemia, while his father was reported dead the following year. I took him as my son and took him to the best-performing school in this area so that he could later in life fill the void left by his parents. But here I am, I have camped in this institution since Thursday, night seeking answers on his whereabouts," Julius Kaburu said.

Embakasi Central Member of Parliament Benjamin Gathiru, criticised National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah for allegedly demeaning Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

During a church service on Sunday, September 8, Gathiru slammed Ichung'wah over his explosive remarks, which he claimed were aimed at demeaning Gachagua.

Gathiru, a close ally of Gachagua, appeared to point an accusing finger at President William Ruto, claiming he imposed Ichung'wah on Kenya Kwanza Alliance lawmakers.

The lawmaker asked the president to contain the majority leader, who he claimed had been out of control.

‘’I want to ask the president, it is you who appointed Kimani Ichung'wah as the majority leader and not us, you appointed him the leader of government business, the people and I need to understand whether the role included going around the country abusing the deputy president. Tame your dog,’’ Gathiru angrily said.

The Kiswahili publication reported on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's trip to Namibia on Sunday, September 8.

Mudavadi is expected to lead discussions on improving bilateral trade relations among the two nations.

Mudavadi confirmed in a press release that he will meet with Namibia's Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Peya Mushelenga.

The high-level visit is a significant step towards strengthening Kenya-Namibia'srai economic and diplomatic relations.

As part of his diplomatic mission, Mudavadi will rally support for Kenya's bid to elect Raila Odinga as Chairperson of the African Union Commission in February 2025.
