Kisii Man Proudly Graduates From Kenyatta University After 18 Years: "I Made It Through"

• The Kisii man was forced to look for employment opportunities occasionally to raise finances for his school fees

Kisii - A man is over the moon after completing his university education despite his challenges.

Charles Nyagero could not contain his joy after he graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree.

Nyagero highlighted the scars he harboured on his way to his academic success, which fueled his reason for resilience.

Challenges Nyagero faced at Kenyatta University

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the elated man from Kisii said he joined Kenyatta University (KU) in 2005.

"I studied for a semester but found that the programme was not favourable since exams were done even on Sabbath, which was against my beliefs as an SDA. I only completed four exams that were not done on the Sabbath. Three units had exams on Sabbath. One unit still went missing for reasons that I can't explain. Three were recorded. I changed to the regular programme to avoid the sabbath exams and was admitted to the Ruiru campus.

I studied for another one and a half years successfully before my sister stopped paying for my school fees. By then, KU was not strict, and I succeeded in doing several exams up to the fourth year's first semester," he narrated.

In 2009, there was a strike, and strict rules were established so that no one could take exams before clearing their fees.

Nyagero said he had to work odd jobs in several fields to raise school fees to return to school.

It was a clear-cut journey for him, especially without the support of his family, but he never gave up and continued to put in the effort.

"I completed my studies in KU and graduated in December 2023. I saw it better not to invite anyone to the graduation and attended it for one hour before I proceeded to Nairobi to buy some stock for my bookshop business. Later I watched the graduation on phone through the internet. Despite the struggle, I thank God for everything," he noted.

Bungoma man graduates from University of Nairobi after 16 years

In another story, Timothy Wangila Sikenyi joined the University of Nairobi in 2008 to quench his academic thirst.

However, during his tenure in the school, he earned 15 suspensions and two expulsions courtesy of campus politics.

On September 20, 2024, the Bungoma man finally ended his 16-year struggle at the university after graduating with a degree.
