"On this fateful night, I closed my shop at 8:45pm because the curfew was from 9pm, boarded the motorbike, and headed home. Somewhere along the road, just next to where I was supposed to branch off to where I was staying, an oncoming car with a full light veered off from its right side and came at full speed on our side.
I started shouting at the boda guy, asking, "Are you seeing that vehicle coming?" And just when the guy tried to get off the tarmac, the car hit me on my right leg and threw us off the road," she narrated.

Akech rushed to hospital by friend, good Samaritan

The mother of two said the accident drew a scene as her family members were contacted and informed of what happened.

A good Samaritan and her friend took her to the hospital, where she was attended to with urgency as she was losing a lot of blood.

"The following day, at around 10am, a nurse came. She was to give me some injections, and then she started by asking, "When was this leg amputated?" It's like l didn't process the news immediately. I was not even shocked. I was just there expressionless and just replied that I was not even aware that I'd been amputated," she said.

Part of me was lost, Akech says

The Kisumu woman said she was in denial after her limb was chopped off, and it took her several days to accept.

"I was not crying because of pain or anything. I was mourning a part of me, which was lost," she added.
