Was Larry Madowo excluded from key police-media meeting?

Previously, the media personality expressed disappointment after being excluded from a recent consultative meeting between the National Police Service (NPS) and news editors in Kenya.

The Wednesday, August 14 meeting centred on enhancing police-media relations through collaboration.

According to a statement released by the NPS on social media, the discussions were led by acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli.

Key figures such as Zubeida Kananu, president of the Kenya Editors Guild, and Eric Oduor, secretary general of the Kenya Union of Journalists, were in attendance.

Reacting to his exclusion, Madowo took to social media to voice his frustration, particularly as he had been directly targeted by police officers while covering protests in Kenya.

He pointed out that despite their significant presence in the city, no one from CNN’s Nairobi bureau or any foreign journalist based in Nairobi was invited to the meeting.

He also questioned the decision to engage with senior editors rather than field reporters who have faced police aggression firsthand during protests.
