Several people are feared dead after a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker crashed into a PSV in Mai Mahiu.

How Mai Mahiu accident occurred

The heavy mover was said to have lost control before ramming into a 14-seater passenger vehicle belonging to Galaxy Express.

Other vehicles were also caught in the crash; one was ferrying mourners with a body from Nairobi to a burial in Rongo, Migori county.

The injured were rushed to the hospital; the number of the fatalities was yet to be confirmed at the time of this publication.

The accident caused a traffic snarlup on the road, with police showing up later to document the scene.

This adds to the string of tragic road accidents reported in parts of the country in the recent past.

A tragic accident occurred along Mwea-Embu Road at Research on September 9, resulting in 25 people sustaining serious injuries.

According to police reports, the accident involved two 14-seater matatus: one operated by Unique Shuttle travelling from Makutano to Mwea, and the other by Neno Sacco heading in the opposite direction.

What caused Mwea-Embu Road accident?

The crash happened when the driver of the Mwea-bound matatu failed to maintain lane discipline, veering into the oncoming lane and colliding head-on with the other matatu.

The injured passengers, ranging in age from 11 to 48, suffered fractures to their legs and arms, cuts on their foreheads, and various tissue injuries.

First responders who milled at the accident scene quickly transported all passengers to a private hospital in Mutithi for treatment.

NAJ Hospital ambulance also helped in the rescue mission.

One of the matatus overturned and ended up lying on its side on the sloped section of the road.
