Mary Moraa secured her second 800m Diamond League title in Brussels on Friday, September 14.

The Kenyan star produced a phenomenal finish to edge Georgia Bell and secure the title after a frustrating Olympic Games.

She will take home a Diamond Trophy and thousands of dollars, in addition to the millions of shillings she received after winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

The 24-year-old has competed in five Diamond League meets in 2024, including the final in Brussels.

She won four of them, and her only defeat was in May at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, where she lost to Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson.

Moraa's first win came in Doha, where she clocked 1:57.91, per World Athletics. She lost in Eugene just before the Olympic Games but has been on fire since.

The world champion won in Lausanne and Zurich before winning the title in Brussels.

The Kenyan star will compete in a women's-only track event, Athlos, in New York City later this month. Her compatriot Faith Kipyegon will also participate.

Mary Moraa Diamond League earnings

Every winner in a Diamond League meet earns $10,000 (Ksh1.29 million). The top eight in every meet and the final are awarded cash.

In the Diamond League final, winners receive $30,000, second-place finishers $12,000, and third-placed athletes $7,000.

Therefore, with four wins and a second-place finish, Moraa earned a total of $66,000 (Ksh8.8 million).

Moraa also earned thousands of dollars after shattering the 600m world record in Berlin earlier this month.

She will compete for a $500,000 purse and 10% of the event’s revenue at Athlos later this month, per Adweek.

TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported how much Moraa earned for breaking the world record in Berlin.

Moraa shattered a record that had been in place since 2017. The prize money of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting is comparatively lower than that of other meetings.
