The veteran journalist broke the sad news on Thursday, September 26 via Instagram.
Mashirima said she was broken while saying a prayer for her mother. In the photo, Mashirima's mum wore a classy African-themed dress and a matching headwrap.

“Broken. Eternal rest grant unto mum, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen,” she wrote.
Just three days ago, Mashirima posted a photo of smiling next to her lookalike mother.
"My everything," she captioned the image.
