How are police to blame for the Migaa crash?

According to the survivors, the Coast Bus vehicle broke down in Kericho while on its way to Mombasa from Kisumu.

Lovin Ingati, who boarded the bus in Vihiga, revealed that the vehicle passed two police roadblocks without being stopped despite showing mechanical problems.

He stated that while in Kericho, one of them reported the matter to a police officer who had a chat with the driver before brushing off their concerns.

Ingati said they counselled the driver to ask the bus company for another bus after noticing the issues, but their reservations were not considered.

"In Kericho, when the vehicle stalled, one of us went to the police station and returned with a police officer. The officer spoke with the driver and the mechanic, then later told us to wait while the vehicle was repaired so that we could continue with our journey.
"Right from the stage, the vehicle seemed to have clutch problems. We told the driver that the vehicle was in bad condition and advised him not to continue with it, asking him to find another vehicle to take us," Ingati said from his hospital bed at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Why should Migaa crash be considered murder?

Ingati, who is battling spinal cord injuries, said the accident should be deemed a murder case and necessary action taken.

He questioned why the company let the bus continue ferrying passengers despite the mechanical issues.

"This is not an ordinary accident; it should be called what it is—murder. Why would you put a car on the road that you know is not roadworthy? Even after passengers complained, you still went ahead with the vehicle. We have lost innocent lives, and it could have been avoided," he lamented.

Regional police commander Jasper Ombati confirmed that the fatalities included five women, seven men, and an infant.
