Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, a well-wisher, Anderson Langat, said he bumped into the girl who was en route looking for a path to head home.

"She was alone on the road. She had taken a wrong turn in finding a way home. She explained he was leaving her uncle's home after her aunt mistreated her. Her uncle had stepped out to go to the hospital after getting a burn, and when she was left alone with her aunt, Chepkirui said she was mistreated," he said.

Langat contacted the village elder, who also interrogated the young girl and discovered she was from Nakuru, where she attended school.

She needed at least KSh 500 to get home, but the three struggled to raise enough money for the young lady's transport.

"We have talked to the mother, who was in pain and crying over the phone. She cried. She did not have money to send so that her daughter could return home as soon as possible. She was also remorseful for what had happened to her daughter and regretted sending her there," he said.
