A family is in mourning after the body of their female relative was recovered from River Narok following days of searching.

The 22-year-old was reportedly a student at Maasai Mara University.

When did the Maasai Mara student disappear?

The university student, who was reported missing on Monday, September 2, at 11am, was found floating in River Narok in what police have described as a drowning incident.

With assistance from the Kenya Red Cross, the 22-year-old's body was transported to the Narok County Referral Hospital morgue for a postmortem.

According to police, the search for the young woman began after she was reported missing.

Police also confirmed that her distraught mother travelled from Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu county to Narok county to identify her deceased daughter.

18-year-old student found dead in Trans Nzoia

In a separate incident, a family in Kwanza constituency, Trans Nzoia county was in mourning after their 18-year-old daughter was found dead.

Eunice Akinyi's body was discovered in a maize field days after she went missing while en route to collect her school leaving certificate from Kesse Secondary School.

Akinyi's body was discovered by a group of children on a farm. The deceased was found completely naked, with her hands and legs bound and marks on her neck.

Her parents, Beatrice Barasa and Robert Masika, revealed that she was preparing to join a college in Makueni.

Barasa stated that Akinyi was assaulted, strangled, and murdered by unknown assailants.

The grieving parents had high hopes for their daughter, believing she would transform their family’s future. They are now seeking justice following the brutal murder of their kin.

Area Chief Alex Wakabete noted that the DCI has taken on the investigation to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
