Police officers in Manga Sub-county, Nyamira county, have launched an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher whose body was found hanging in the living room of his home in Mokorong'osi village, Kiangoso ward.

According to the law enforcers, the deceased, Mabeya Nyakundi, who had been teaching at Mokwerero Primary School, had been suffering from prolonged stress and had been in frequent conflicts with family members.

What led to Nyamira teacher's death?

However, it has not yet been determined if the disputes contributed to the untimely death.

It is also reported that the deceased appeared calm evening of Wednesday, September 18, as he ate dinner, which had been prepared by his son, and then went to bed.

However, on the morning of Thursday, September 19, when his son tried to knock on the main door of the house, he was met with the sight of his father’s body in the living room, prompting him to raise an alarm.

At the time of the incident, the deceased was alone in the house after his wife had left a few days for her parent's home due to ongoing marital issues.

Police officers arrived at the scene, took the body, and transferred it to a mortuary in Kisii town for further investigation.

Months ago, the Nyamira Boys High School community was left in mourning after the sudden death of one of the teachers at the institution.

Identified as Kelvin Omwenga, the chemistry and mathematics teacher's body was discovered inside his house on Thursday, June 6.

Lost bet that frustrated Nyamira teacher to death

Confirming the incident, Nyamira Township assistant chief Johnson Manyara revealed that the deceased lost KSh 50,000 in a gaming venture in which he had invested the amount.

He was gaming on Aviator, a popular platform on which one stakes and waits for the stake money to multiply, then cashes out at maximum before the multiplier crashes.

The teacher had sent his young family -his wife and one-year-old child- to his native home to check on his ailing parents.

School principal George Onkundi said Omwenga had not shown any signs of distress prior to his death.

However, the teacher had underlying issues that bothered him, and the principal revealed that his colleagues had lent him money.

Police picked up the body and booked it to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital morgue.
