Nairobi - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders of developing the habit of lying to Kenyans.

Speaking at the ACK St. Patrick's Church in Kayole, Gachagua said that many government officials have been economical with the truth for a long time.

Why is Rigathi Gachagua hated by some leaders?

The deputy president encouraged leaders to listen to the people and work in line with their aspirations.

According to Gachagua, his critics in the Kenya Kwanza administration were afraid of him because he was a truthful man.

"Good leadership is listening to the people. Listen to them because they are the ones you are leading. People are mad, and I want to encourage leadership in the country to listen to the people. I always tell the truth, and people have a problem with me. For a long time, people in the government have been used to lying to Kenyans. Many people we have in the government are not used to the truth, so when I speak the truth, they are saying am bad," Gachagua said.

While vowing to continue speaking the truth, the second-in-command said he has aligned himself with Kenyans after discovering that people are no longer easily cheated.

Gachagua insisted that he had no apology to make for remaining truthful to Kenyans who elected him.

"Kenyans have advanced, and they are very intelligent, so the time of cheating Kenyans is over. I have aligned with Kenyans, and I have aligned myself with the people of Kenya. If you don't like me for that, there is nothing else that I can do," he added.

How Gachagua responded to his critics

Earlier, the deputy president said he was listening to what the electorate wants at the expense of being pleasing to President William Ruto.

He was responding to critics who had called him out for supposedly dissenting from his boss.

Gachagua was categorical that he would obey the president and support his agenda but in line with what the lowly Kenyans, whom he calls his employers, want.
