Nairobi - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto to intervene and restore order within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The DP expressed concern over the growing political infighting that has put the country in an unnecessary election mood.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, September 20, Gachagua voiced his frustrations about the current political climate, with various factions in the ruling coalition engaging in heated discussions about his impeachment and internal attacks.

"It is unfortunate that the country has been put in an election mood. People are just talking about politics; impeach so and so, how so and so is useless, others are calling others snakes. There are all sorts of things that are going on," Gachagua said.

The Deputy President urged Ruto to take decisive action to curb the rising political tensions.

According to Gachagua, the political bickering is a distraction from the work that needs to be done to address the challenges facing the country.

"It is really upon the President of the Republic of Kenya, who is also our party leader, to put his house in order. I have talked to the President several times and asked him to call his house to order. How can people be meeting at this time to discuss how to impeach a deputy president when the country needs a lot of work to be done? How insensitive can we be to Kenyans? It’s up to our boss to decide what should be done because he is our party leader," the DP stated.

How should Ruto solve UDA infighting

The DP called on Ruto to convene a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting to address the rising political temperatures and stop the infighting.

"He can call a PG and bring down the political temperatures; tell the MPs to stop attacking each other, ask those who accompany him who abuse the Deputy President to stop…because if he told them to stop, they would stop. Ask them to stop these night meetings. It’s really him to provide leadership so that the country can go back to work," Gachagua added.

Gachagua made it clear that he has no direct responsibility for the political infighting but noted that he and his supporters are forced to respond to the onslaught against him.

"I have no responsibility because my team answers to what is going on. We are also politicians, and when there is an onslaught against the DP, he too has his people who support him," Gachagua said.

How Mt Kenya politicians started plot against Gachagua

In recent weeks, the ever-politically charged Mt Kenya region, which Gachagua styled himself as its de facto leader, has been full of activities, with blocks emerging to dissent from him.

It began with some 48 lawmakers convening to rally behind Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the region's go-to leader, followed by over 300 ward representatives who also declared their support for Kindiki, and then over 2,000 members of the revered Meru Council of Elders Njuri Ncheke following suit.

In the midst of the political goings-on, reports emerged that a motion to institute Gachagua's ouster was already in the precincts of parliament and would be tabled soon.
