Nakuru - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned a section of Mt Kenya MPs against planning for his downfall.

How has Rigathi Gachagua been betrayed?

Speaking at a function on Saturday, August 18, in Njoro, Nakuru county, Gachagua claimed people he helped win the 2022 elections were behind plans to impeach him.

Gachagua said despite campaigning for some leaders to win seats, they have now turned against him.

"There are many people I assisted during campaigns to clinch the seats they hold today. But I realised they are the same people plotting my downfall and backstabbing me," Gachagua said.

The deputy president warned he would not support any leader plotting his downfall in the 2027 General Election.

"But the good thing is that elections come every five years. So the same people will need my support in 2027. I will only support those who are supporting me now. One of them even had the audacity to ask me why I don't recognise his work whenever I visit his constituency," he added.

Inside Rigathi Gachagua's warning to Mt Kenya rebels

Gachagua added that politics of deceit, betrayal, and conmanship are part of the political process, and one needs a strong heart to survive.

"I have personally witnessed politics of betrayal and conmanship. The people I helped get elected are the same people who have betrayed me. But politics is like that. You must have a thick skin," the deputy president added.

The DP warned the 'rebel' leaders, saying they had until December to 'mend their ways'.

According to Gachagua, a majority of the rebels will not be re-elected in the 2027 elections.

"By this year December, the decision would have been made on who will be coming back and who is going home. After December, you can not change anything. For those who have lost track, you have until December to get back on track," he added.

Did Gachagua ask MPs to drop impeachment plans?

Earlier, the deputy president downplayed plans by a section of Kenya Kwanza MPs to impeach him.

Speaking in Kagumo, Kirinyaga county, Gachagua insisted that he was the Mt Kenya region kingpin and that he could not be ousted from the Kenya Kwanza government.

The second-in-command asked the MPs planning to table an impeachment motion against him to drop the idea.
