Nairobi, Kenya— Kenyan-based electric mobility pioneer Roam has just made its mark on the 2024 Impact/100 list – a global ranking of the most innovative and world-changing startups.

Curated by the Norrsken Foundation, in collaboration with 40+ powerhouse venture capitalists (VCs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including the Obama Foundation and the World Fund, the Impact/100 celebrates companies that are disrupting industries and reshaping the future for the better.

Roam's inclusion on this list sets a bold marker for Africa's role in driving global sustainability in transport.

Selected from over 1,200 competitors, Roam emerged as the top 100 startups tackling global challenges by providing clean, affordable transport across Africa and advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This recognition coincided with the recently concluded 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), themed "Leaving no one behind."

Roam supports key SDGs, reducing carbon emissions (Goal 13: Climate Action), promoting sustainable, accessible transport (Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities), and creating economic growth and jobs (Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth).

Roam’s logo will also light up NASDAQ’s iconic Times Square sign in New York City - U.S.A., alongside fellow Impact/100 honorees such as AirForestry, Rology, Shara, Smartex, and Fleet Zero, among others.

NASDAQ is one of the biggest billboards in the world, measuring 10,000 square feet and 120 feet in height.

This global spotlight underscores Roam’s growing role as a leader in Africa’s electric mobility space and marks the company's acceleration towards transforming transportation at scale.

Roam CEO Filip Lovstrom said the recognition is more than just an accolade, which fuels the company's mission to change how Africa moves.

The Impact/100 is not just a list – it’s a platform for 100 bold ideas to fix the future.

How Roam leads in Kenya

In September 2024, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) elected ROAM's Hans van Toor chair of the Electric Mobility Sub-Sector, alongside Matt Lloyd from Associated Vehicles Assemblers(AVA) vice chair.

The KAM Electric Mobility Sub-Sector focuses on strengthening local manufacturing to reduce Kenya's reliance on imports.

Local manufacturing and the development of a robust supply chain for electric vehicles are expected to create jobs for Kenyans.
