“Good morning Your Excellency, I hope this video finds you well. Nimesema nirecord hii video sababu nimejaribu kukutafuta sana for the couple of weeks sijakua nikikupata (I have decided to record this since you have been unavailable the past couple of weeks). I have sent several people to you, to talk to you but sijakua nikipata majibu yeyote (I have received no response),” Swaleh said.

In the emotional video, Swaleh admitted breaking Mudavadi's trust, which he said they had built over the past years.

While expressing his deep regret for betraying the trust, Swaleh acknowledged that Mudavadi has been a father figure to him since they met.

“We built unmatched trust between us. And for the last one and half years I served you with unmatched zeal. I broke the trust. I did. And I’m so sorry about it. I’m truly remorseful about it,” he said, visibly emotional.

While shedding tears, the former Citizen TV journalist revealed that the past month has been extremely difficult for him.

Did govt stop Salim Swaleh's salary?

He disclosed that he has been unable to go outside due to the negative attention surrounding the fraud allegations against him.

Swaleh admitted to battling suicidal thoughts due to the difficult financial situation he is currently facing.

The former journalist said he suddenly lost everything and now faces financial difficulties, with bills and loans to pay.

“A lot of things have been running through my mind, very bad things. Sometimes I feel like taking my own life. Bills are piling up, salaries stopped abruptly, I have loans. Please find it in your heart forgive me. Please have mercy on me," he added as he whipped his tears.

Which charges were levelled against Salim Swaleh

As reported earlier, Swaleh and the five other suspects were charged with fraud, impersonation, and abuse of Mudavadi's office.

Police Inspector Nicholas Njorore claimed that the suspects lured foreigners to the country with promises of securing a tender to construct two stadiums.

According to Njoroge, the foreigners were allegedly required to pay a KSh 5.7 million registration fee to secure the tender.
