Tharaka-Nithi - A young girl can afford to smile after struggling with a rough life patch but emerging victorious.

Wendy, who was born with heart complications, has had to undergo a lot of challenges because of her health situation.

Why couldn't Wendy do much?

The young lady was compelled to drop out of high school because of her deteriorating health status.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, she said she barely stayed in school as she was mostly in and out of the hospital seeking treatment.

"I couldn't help much in my family. I couldn't even walk much or do many exercises. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was like a house because I used to be there. The pain was what used to make me weak. I was never strong enough. The pain was all over my body," she recalled.

When was Wendy operated?

Wendy said she was once admitted to the hospital for two months because her blood oxygen saturation was low.

She underwent a major heart surgery in December 2022 that transformed her life despite having a 50/50 success rate.

"I am just taking pills for my heart, but I am fine now. I am so glad, and I thank God for this breakthrough. It has been tough, but I am happy so far," she said.

How much was Wendy's heart surgery?

Her mother, Grace Mwende, was also delighted with her daughter's medical success after spending so much money on her health.

She noted the family spent KSh 2.8 million for their daughter's heart surgery, and everything went well.

Separately, Kabugo Wa Kamau and Evarita Kamau were best friends in kindergarten, and their love grew so much over the years.

When Evarita was diagnosed with a heart condition whose episodes were very intense and near-death experiences, Kabugo swung into action and helped her friend's family raise money.

Shortly afterwards, Evarita's sister was diagnosed with the same heart condition, and Kabugo told TUKO.co.ke that she travelled with both of them to India to ensure that they had surgeries.
