Afterwards, their mum seemed to be going somewhere or to see someone, but she never returned.

"She left at around 12pm and never returned; I was around five years, but I remember very well. At the time, my immediate sibling was three years old and our last born was six months old," she said.
"My father brought home another woman in less than ten days. It wasn't very good for us. My brother always asks me where mum went and if she is coming back. Sometimes, my dad tells my sister that she is being stubborn, like our mum is still around," she added sadly.

Ekiru wants their mum dead or alive

Ekiru has since completed Form Four and is in a relationship with a good man.

"I fear that if I get married my mum will miss the best times such as my dowry ceremony and the wedding," said the young lady desperately.
"I remember one time her brother came to look for us but my step mother threatened to have him arrested by the police. We heard that he was from Naivasha," she added.

Her sister sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 but has yet to join college. Her parents are allegedly dragging their feet in taking her to university, and Ekiru fears that she may fall into the wrong hands.

Ekiru said that not having a mother made her lack many things and grow up quickly.

"We didn't have much. Dear mum where are you? If you are dead where did they bury you at least we see your grave and get satisfied?" asked Ekiru.
