Azimio parties have not been seeing eye to eye following the appointment of ODM’s politicians to President William Ruto's Cabinet.

When will Uhuru chair Azimio council meetings

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka admitted there were challenges in the opposition coalition, saying it is normal in a coalition.

During the Africa Youth Forum 2024 on Thursday, August 15, Kalonzo revealed Uhuru would lead the discussion in an attempt to steady the ship.

"Even the chairperson of the Azimio summit, who is Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, will likely call for a meeting to discuss these matters openly. Before that happens, it is customary, by the way, for political parties to do so. We need to talk openly and comprehensively," Kalonzo said.

How did Uhuru help Ruto

Divisions within the political outfit came to the for once more after Raila made claims about his interactions with the former head of state.

On Tuesday, August 13, during the funeral service of former IEBC commissioner Irene Masit's father, Mzee Chirchir Masit, in Elgeyo Marakwet county, ODM leader Raila Odinga disclosed Uhuru's involvement in the formation of the broad-based government.

Raila explained that the former head of state called him and urged him not to stand by while the country descended into chaos during the Gen Z protests.

He said that Uhuru advised him to look for Ruto and assist him in addressing the issues raised by the youth while protesting.

The ODM leader added that after his conversation with Uhuru, Ruto reached out to him, prompting him to speak candidly about the flaws in Ruto's government.

He seemingly implied that he had a role in Ruto's decision to dissolve his entire Cabinet.

Kioni refutes Raila's claims

In a quick retort, Kioni denied Raila's allegations that the former head of state was involved in the formation of Ruto's new Cabinet.

Kioni stated that Uhuru's stance is that he cannot be involved in a government that has allegedly caused significant havoc in the country.

He asserted that Raila's claims that Uhuru encouraged him to talk to Ruto are untrue and inaccurate, referencing a letter from Uhuru urging national leaders to listen to the concerns raised by Kenyans.
