Police Launch Search For Stranger Who Abandoned Twins At Policewoman's Home

• Police officer Helen Masakamika left her home at 7 pm and headed to the market
• When she returned an hour later, she stumbled on a set of twins abandoned in her backyard, fast asleep
• Despite efforts, no one in the area could recognize or identify the infants

Two babies, believed to be twins, were allegedly abandoned at the home of a police officer in Chingola, Copperbelt Province, on Tuesday evening.

The twins were discovered by the officer, Helen Masakamika, in her backyard, fast asleep.

Mwebantu reports that the discovery was made around 8 pm after Officer Masakamika returned home from the market.

The policewoman had left her home, located at Nchanga Police Camp, an hour earlier at 7 pm.

"When she returned, she found the two babies lying near her front door in the backyard," Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, said.

Since the babies appeared healthy, she immediately called her neighbours to assist in identifying them.

Despite efforts, no one in the area could recognize or identify the infants.

After consulting with her superior, Officer Masakamika took the babies to the police station, where the case was officially reported.

The babies were subsequently transferred to Nchanga North General Hospital and admitted for further care and observation.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the identity of the person responsible for abandoning the babies.

Authorities have appealed for anyone with information regarding the twins or their mother to come forward.
