After the images emerged, netizens expressed mixed reactions, with a majority condemning the act.

Brian Cheboi

“Inhuman teachers. The principal should be responsible for this. Where are the board members and parents? They should do something.”

Kiprono Kiprono:

“The teacher is always right, instilling discipline and a sense of responsibility. Children of this generation don't want to work hard. They want to be pushed.”

Kiptoo Zack:

“That's why they excel. Visit Davies and witness what happens. Teachers are rude than the students. They even called us once to go and assist in disciplining the students.”

Geofrey Kimutai:

“Even if the student is in the wrong, punishment should be administered rightfully. This is totally wrong and must be condemned.”

Muigei:

“This is inhumane, and the perpetrators should be brought to book; why punish someone's child to this extent.”

Abraham Kirwa:

“If we had not been punished, we would not be where we are. Punishment should be back.”

Student forced to smash phone in Butula Boys

Elsewhere, a Butula Boys High School student was forced to smash his mobile phone using a hammer after sneaking it into school.

In a video shared online, teachers off-camera urged him to continue smashing the phone, saying asking him to go home for his parents would waste time.

The young boy sadly smashed the phone repeatedly until the screen turned powdery as his teacher had directed him.
