The video making rounds on social media shows Ruto promising to have the bridge fixed to prevent the loss of lives on the road that leads to Meru county.

The video has resurfaced following a deadly accident that claimed the lives of at least ten adults and children at the bridge.

While on a tour of the Meru region in 2023, Ruto acknowledged that the Nithi bridge has cost too many lives through accidents and announced that the government was in the process of allocating funds to redivert the road from the valley.

"Nithi Bridge will stop taking the lives of the people here in Meru and Tharaka Nithi and this region. We are already in the process of budgeting this year for funds to replace that bridge and ensure that the road no longer passes through such a problematic area.

Yesterday, we sat down with your leaders, led by the governor, and we agreed that they will meet with our minister tomorrow to decide whether the previous survey will be used or if we need to plan anew to ensure we don't make any more mistakes. The bridge will be built in a location that will not cause harm as we move forward," Ruto said as the audience clapped.
