Citizen TV news anchor Lulu Hassan is mourning the death of her former employee, Winnie Bwire, who played Dida in the popular Citizen TV series Sultana.

Bwire passed away after a brave battle with breast cancer.

Winnie Bwire's passing in Turkey

Bwire's family confirmed that she succumbed to cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

Earlier in August, Bwire had appealed to Kenyans for financial support as she fought the disease, hopeful that she would overcome it.

The family released a heartfelt statement following her death, saying:

"It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God's will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, September 5, while undergoing treatment in Turkey. We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course. God bless you all."

Lulu Hassan's tribute to Winnie Bwire

Lulu Hassan, co-owner of Jiffy Pictures alongside her husband Rashid Abdallah, took to social media to share her grief.

She reposted the family's statement and expressed her heartbreak, writing:

"It is well mamii 💔💔💔."

Bwire Ndubi shares cancer journey

In October 2022, the multi-talented actress left many sympathising with her after revealing she had been battling breast cancer.

Dida, as she was known on the screens, penned a touching message detailing her journey with cancer, thanking God for the gift of life.

She also appreciated her ex-lover and fellow actor Dan Sonko, her parents, and her family for being there for her.

The cancer warrior shared photos of her clean-shaven head, wearing a white dress and cancer awareness hashtags.

Winnie Bwire thanks Kenyans for supporting her

The departed actress had recently asked Kenyans to help fundraise for her treatment in Turkey. She travelled to the country in August.

She shared a touching post saying that she and the doctors had decided to carry on with the treatment as the funds kept streaming in.

The actress said that Kenyans gave her a fighting chance and was thankful. She said that she was choosing to focus on the good.
