He was born Jimmy Hal King on August 9, 1973 in South Bend, Indiana. Jimmy first came into prominence playing for the famous Wolverines, University of Michigan's basketball team. The starting line up was popularly known at the time as the Fab Five. He played alongside Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson and Chris Weber.

King went on to play for the LA Crosse Bobcats (1992-2000), the Sioux Falls Skyforce (2000), the Quad City Thunder (2000), the Gary Steelheads (2000-2001), the Tratmundos de Carabobo (2001) in Venezuela, the Asheville Altitude (2001-2002), the Spojnia Stargard Szczecinski (2002-2003) in Poland, the Great Lake Storms (2003-2004), and the Guaiqueries de Margarita (2005) also out of Venezuela. Playing as a shooting guard, he has tallied 285 points, 112 rebounds and 90 assists. Jimmy King is currently the Program Director of a non-profit organization, H.Y.P.E. Athletics Community that provides mentoring for youth. In 2016, the next phase of King's basketball career began, as he signed on to coach Michigan's Ecorse Community High School men's basketball team.
