How judge arrived at 30-year jail term

Evidence showed that on the night between April 14 and 15, the Shibweche attacked Barasa and killed him using a blunt object, Citizen Digital reported.

Arriving at the jail term, the judge took into consideration the defendant's past history, where he had been addicted to smoking bhang since childhood after dropping out of school in the third grade.

His past involvement in insecurity cases in his home area also influenced the judges' final sentence.

Shibweche had defended himself, arguing that during the time he was in remand, he had managed to reform.

Judge Chebet ordered the 30-year sentence to be implemented on April 24, 2019, which is the day the defendant was brought to court.

Why Kiambu court sentenced minor to 10 years in jail

Elsewhere, a 16-year-old girl was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of her 20-month-old cousin.

Identified as BW, the minor was accused of killing her one-year-old and eight-month-old cousin, MK, on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

Nation reported that the prosecution said the deceased was suffocated to death and then thrown into an underground water tank.

During her sentencing at a Kiambu court on Friday, November 10, Lady Justice Lucy Gitari stated that BW would serve the first two years at a borstal institution and the remaining eight years at Lang’ata Women's Prison.

In agreeing with the prosecution, the judge noted that a custodial sentence was deserving of the subject who killed her innocent cousin.
