On December 2, 2023, Aman Mollel was meant to exchange wedding rings with the love of his life, 39-year-old Rehema Chao.

However, he was taken through a host of emotions as the family of his fianceé handed back the engagement ring he had given Rehema.

Rehema, mother died

Mwananchi reports that the young woman never made it to her wedding because she died in a road accident a few weeks ago.

Aman engaged Rehema, a secondary school teacher in Morogoro, on September 2, followed by a sendoff ceremony on November 24.

Four days later, the bride-to-be was on the way to Kilimanjaro for the wedding planning when she was involved in a fatal accident.

Her vehicle rammed into a lorry as she tried to avoid a pothole on the road, leading to the death of three people.

"Rehema died alongside her mother and their nanny, while her child and younger sibling walked away with injuries," Mwananchi records.

Future without Rehema

With the bride-to-be six feet under, the family returned the engagement ring that symbolized the love and commitment between the couple.

Calvin Koola, the pastor who had presided over the burial, made the grieving groom sit on a chair surrounded by family members, after which he prayed for him.

"We decided to give him back the ring because he gave it to the deceased woman, and the family didn't have anyone else to give it to," Koola explained.

Aman is now left to navigate the pain and sorrow of losing not only his life partner but also the future they had envisioned together.

Rehema buried on her wedding day

Rehema was buried in a tearful ceremony on Saturday, December 2, the same day that was supposed to be their wedding day.

A heartbreaking video shared by Mwananchi showed the would-be groom weeping in pain during her burial.

Instead of holding his lover's hand as they exchanged vows, Aman held his lover's cross as she was laid to rest.
