Kenya Airports Authority Raises Alarm Over Fake Job Offers Online

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has raised an alarm over fake jobs being offered by unscrupulous individuals online on its behalf.

Why KAA warned Kenyans

In a statement on Tuesday, December 12, KAA dismissed a job advert circulating online purporting to offer vacancies at the company.

KAA warned Kenyans looking for jobs to be alert to avoid being conned.

"Public Alert: Beware of fraudulent job offers claiming association with Kenya Airports Authority.

We have been alerted to the fraudulent activities of individuals making false employment offers in the name of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). The public is being targeted through counterfeit social media accounts and misleading posters," KAA cautioned.

The government agency asked Kenyans to only apply for jobs advertised through its website.

"Genuine communication from KAA will only come from email addresses ending in '.go.ke'. We do not use 'gmail.com' or any other non-official email domains for official recruitment purposes," it stated.

KNH denies advertising jobs

Elsewhere, the Kenyatta National Hospital warned against an advertisement alleging it was conducting a recruitment exercise for 1,446 positions.

In a statement, KNH asked members of the public to be aware of fake employment advertisements circulating on social media.

The viral advertisement alleged that KNH had vacancies for registered nurses, medical assistants, morticians, drivers, security guards, and social workers.

The fake advertisement also provided specific criteria for the application for the alleged jobs, including the deadline for the application.

Why unemployment is a big concern

In April, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) released a report showing that the number of unemployed Kenyans grew to 2.97 million.

About half, or 1.33 million of jobless Kenyans did not show interest in searching for jobs or starting a business.

The number is composed of Kenyans aged between 20 and 24 years falling under the labour force bracket.
