Millicent Jerotich, known for her viral song Mali Safi Chito has taken people down memory lane about the challenges she had to endure to get to where she is.

Why Mali Safi Chito singer was kicked out

Jerotich recalled the struggles she faced during her younger years when she was kicked out by her parents over allegations that she was mean and not contributing to buying food.

In an interview with Obinna, she explained that for the one month she was kicked out she faced so much turbulence until she learnt how to sew using a machine in desperate bids to find a way to sustain herself.

She revealed that a group of close friends who knew her troubles contributed KSh 12,000 so she could get a fresh start in life.

Jerotich narrated how she took a matatu to Eldoret, where she bought a Singer sewing machine for KSh 6000.

Additionally, she acquired a very thin mattress, claiming it felt no different from lying on the floor, and a leather jacket worth KSh 70 to endure the harsh life.

"I bought one sufuria, one plastic cup, a plastic plate and one spoon. I would cook sukuma wiki and wash the sufuria, make tea and wash it, then make ugali. At night, I would soak the sufuria, so that I wash it the next day," she said.

Jerotich on her song going viral

Jerotich said she prayed and was given three songs, including Mali Safi Chito, in 2021, and she asked God to help her.

The Eldoret-based singer said she didn’t release the song until recently because she didn’t have studio money.

She was surprised by the song’s popularity on TikTok and YouTube and thanked her fans for their love and support.
