Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi now suggests Raila Odinga's loss at the 2022 presidential vote was calculated and those in the latter's fold at the time might have had a hand in his setback.

He calls it "the biggest con of Kenya's political history" as he drags retired president Uhuru Kenya into the centre as the supposed fraud's mastermind.

Raila in his fifth bid to lead Kenya as its president got routed by President William Ruto who won at his first attempt.

As proclaimed by the elections management body, Raila was trounced by Ruto, who was declared the presidential winner after garnering over 7.1 million votes, accounting for over 50% of the valid votes cast and tallied.

The Azimio candidate fell in second place with over 6.9 million, representing 48.8% of the total valid ballots.

Despite having advanced a Raila presidency in the run-up to the election, Ngunyi implies the former prime minister's umpteenth attempt at the country's top seat was sabotaged.

Ngunyi, a deviser of many political theories in Kenya, went ahead to counsel Raila to cut ties with the people he charged with selling his bid in the Mt Kenya region.

He said the Azimio La Umoja umbrella under which Raila nurtured his bid was moribund and it was time the former premier shifted focus to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which he has been leading for years on end.

"Azimio is dead. It was the big con of our political history. Raila should focus on ODM because Jubilee is also dead. This is what he should tell Uhuru: "Nothing Personal, just business". Uhuru and Kikuyus are just misusing Babaman. Fact," posited Ngunyi on X, formerly Twitter.

In the face of Raila's loss, Ngunyi said the ODM leader's over-reliance on the faceless deep state cost him the presidency.

Visibly taking a backseat after running an intensive pro-Raila campaign on the interwebs, the political analyst suggested laxity and laziness on the part of Raila's campaign team, which was under an illusion that Uhurs administration would have a hand in the former prime minister's supposed victory.

According to him, it would suffice if the presidential results are annulled at the Supreme Court, where Azimio plans to challenge Ruto's win over alleged electoral fraud.

He, however, stated that the battle at the apex court is bound to be lost if the state-backed political faction does not aptly put its act together.

"I am proud to be Kenyan. But I will be more proud if the election is nullified with no violence. Azimio has a good case. But they are reciting poetry to a man holding a sword. I warned them in May that the deep state would not deliver. Laziness at the Supreme Court will be a disaster," said Ngunyi.

Ngunyi's "prophecy of doom"

In the build-up to the election, a headstrong Ngunyi held that Raila ought to work twice as hard as he did in the previous elections to be assured of a win against Ruto.

He stated that it would be politically detrimental to the former premier if he chose to work with the so-called deep state at the expense of him activating the bases that have been assuring him the constant 44% of the votes in the past three elections; 2007, 2013 and 2017.

The analyst argued that the deep state should only come out to bolster Raila's bid after he has himself set the ball rolling.

"To our friend Raila Odinga, we want to give him counsel. If he will rely on the deep state to win this election then he will fail dismally and we will not forgive him for this failure," he said.

The deep state has been defined as a body of influential individuals believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of a government's policies.
