Pastor Ezekiel Claims Luos Don't Contribute Towards Hospital Bills Of Relatives But Attend Funerals

New Life Prayer Center and Church founder Pastor Ezekiel Odero has accused the Luo community of neglecting their sick relatives and friends but showing up for their funerals.

He said that Luos have a culture of glorifying death and mourning, rather than caring for the living and preventing illness.

Why Luos need the gospel - Pastor Ezekiel

According to Pastor Ezekiel, Luos do not take health matters seriously and often fail to support their loved ones who are in need of medical attention.

He claimed that Luos would rather save their money for funeral expenses than pay for hospital bills.

He also alleged that Luos have a strong attachment to funerals and would travel long distances to attend them, even for people they barely knew.

“When their loved ones are sick or stuck at the hospital, they won’t contribute money. But if the loved one dies, they will take the news with lots of seriousness. They will leave Nairobi and attend the funeral. They will cry even if the person is not a close relative to them," he said.

The preacher added that Luos are obsessed with being recognised in the eulogy and would complain or cause trouble if they are not mentioned.

Pastor Ezekiel also criticised the Luo media for perpetuating the culture of death by broadcasting death announcements, while other media outlets have stopped doing so.

He said that Luos need to hear the gospel of life, and change their attitude towards sickness and death. He urged them to value life more than death and to show compassion and generosity to their sick relatives and friends.

"They will even fight to be in the eulogy. They will question why they have not been mentioned in the eulogy. Even their local TV station still broadcast deaths while other TV stations don’t. Somebody should take the gospel to Luo land, please. They love death and funerals,” Ezekiel said in a TikTok video shared by Jaelkoth.

Why you shouldn't spend money on funerals

Previously, the man of God discouraged people, especially Luos, from spending heavily on the funerals of their loved ones.

He explained that decorating a funeral is akin to attracting the spirit of death to return and take another bereaved family member.

"I'm warning you, if you decorate a funeral, you are making the spirit of death love your home. The way you decorate a funeral is the same way you make the spirit of death to celebrate. It will take another person and not a useless person. It will pick an elite. That is why when you go to Luo, you will find a grave of a professor, a doctor. Those important people," Ezekiel said.
