In a fiery display of love and determination, Mike and Jamie Jack from Ontario, Canada, have officially set a new record for the longest habanero pepper kiss.

Mike is no stranger to breaking records

On February 25, the couple embarked on this spicy challenge, each devouring a habanero pepper before locking lips for an impressive 15 minutes and 6.5 seconds.

As per a Guinness World Record, Mike is no stranger to holding Guinness World Records, having conquered some of the world's hottest peppers like the Carolina Reapers and ghost peppers.

He welcomed the idea of breaking another record together with his wife, Jamie. The fiery feat required meticulous preparation.

"I have broken a bunch of Guinness World Records titles, but Jamie wanted to break one too," Mike said. "This record was one we could do together."

While habaneros weren't too hot for Mike, Jamie took on a month-long challenge, eating a habanero every day to build up her tolerance for the spicy pepper.

Describing the attempt, Mike said,

"We had 30 seconds to eat a habanero and then we put our lips together for as long as we wanted. We chose 15 minutes because we'll have our 15-year wedding anniversary this year."

Couple express joy at sharing unique moment

For Mike, the most challenging part of the endeavour was witnessing Jamie's weeks of preparation.

"She wanted to make sure that she could eat a habanero without running for a drink immediately after," he revealed.

The couple expressed their joy at being able to share such a unique experience with each other.

"The best part was that we got to kiss each other for 15 minutes," Mike said with a smile. "We love each other so much."

The months of dedication and practice paid off as the couple confidently conquered the record.

"It's best to 'win it before you begin it'," Mike explained, emphasising the importance of thorough preparation.

Family and friends witness feat

Mike proudly commended Jamie for her determination and success in breaking her first Guinness World Records title, and their friends and family shared in the celebration as they witnessed the momentous occasion.

Buoyed by their latest triumph, the couple has already set their sights on their next spicy challenge - breaking the record for the longest Bhut Jolokia chilli pepper kiss.

While Mike acknowledges that Jamie will need a bit more preparation for that title, they are eager to attempt it in the near future.

Furthermore, Mike has his eye on a few more pepper-eating records that he would like to personally tackle.

Mike advised aspiring contenders looking to take on similar challenges to be well-prepared.

"Make sure you can handle the heat of the peppers before attempting a record like this," he warned. "You don't want to throw up into someone else's mouth."

Family of nine share birthdays

In another record-setting story, the Mangi family from Lakarna, Pakistan, set a record for having nine members who share the same birthday.

According to the Guinness World Records, the family consists of father Ameer Ali, mother Khudeja, and seven children aged between 19 and 30.

They include Sindhoo, female twins Sasui and Sapna, Aamir, Ambar, and male twins Ammar and Ahmar.

Apart from the fact that they all share the name, Mangi, all nine members were born on August 1, so they all celebrate their birthdays on the same day.

Official data shows that the family holds the world record for the most family members born on the same day.
