Nairobi - NRG Radio's DJ Xclusive has hit out at musician Bahati after the singer expressed his frustration over Kenyan music's lack of global recognition.

DJ says Bahati should keep off music

Bahati's grievances centred around the perceived dominance of Tanzania's Bongo Flava and Nigeria's Afrobeat music on the international stage, leaving Kenyan artists struggling to gain similar global airplay.

The singer voiced his disappointment in a recent post on Instagram, where he called on Kenyan artistes to unite to make Kenyan music go international.

Bahati's post sparked a fierce response from DJ Xclusive, who told the singer off on air.

"Shut the hell up. You went from making good music to doing TikTok video ukiwa umevaa nguo za wanawake."

Adding:

"You were one of the good musicians in the 254, but you have focussed more on creating content than doing music."

In his retort, DJ Xclusive took a sharp and personal jab at Bahati, advising him to focus on unconventional ways of gaining attention, including cross-dressing, wearing wigs, and creating content for TikTok.

He sarcastically encouraged the artist to keep wearing wigs in his content.

Netizens reacted to the post, and below are some of their comments:

Bahati responds to DJ Xclusive

Bahati responded to the post stating he stood by his message while subtly threatening DJ Xclusive.

In an Instagram post, he wrote:

"Niliongea tu ukweli kidogo kumbe watu wameingiza feelings. For now sitajibu huyu gathee wa ndevu vile nilikua nimepanga juu boss wake ni rafiki yangu." (I spoke the truth and some people have caught feelings. I will not respond to the bearded guy (DJ Xclusive) as I had planned, as his boss is my close friend.)

Adding:

"In my career, I have never disrespected DJs and the media, but I'm happy you're all talking. That means the message is home."

Critics slam Bahati's cross-dressing

On Thursday, July 20, TUKO.co.ke reported that Bahati was the talk of the town after he was snapped clad in a red dress.

The EMB Records boss said he felt like a woman whenever Diana asked him to carry a handbag.

“Ladies, this is how your man feels when you give him your handbag to hold for you. Babe, let everyone carry their belonging,” he wrote.

The video attracted backlash from a section of Kenyans, but he was unbothered.
