Uasin Gishu - An Eldoret man accused of stealing a KSh 15,000 ring has been asked to defecate it before a ruling.

Emmanuel Moyi stole a ring from a jewel shop in Eldoret town and left his old low-value mimic gold ring.

According to the charges in court, Moyi reportedly stole the ring worth KSh 15,000 belonging to Mwaura Nguku Kamau on Saturday, August 26, 2023, by swallowing it.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba, State Counsel Patricia Kirui asked an Eldoret court not to release him until he excretes the missing ring.

Patricia told the court that, as the prosecution, they were counting on hopes that he would excrete the ring in the next week.

"Part of the exhibit, which is a gold ring, is an item that he did swallow and which the investigating officer is actually waiting for it to get out of his body. It is the reason we are requesting if the bond terms can be suspended until we get the exhibit," she told the court.

Moyi says he already excreted

The suspect told the court that he had accepted the charges against him and was waiting for his sentencing.

Moyi explained that he understood he wouldn't be granted a bond until he excreted the ring, yet he had already gone for a long call.

"But I have accepted the charges. That's what she told me. She said I won't be given bail for now until the investigation is conducted. That's even why they were monitoring me at the police station. So they asked me if I went to the restroom, and I told them I did. Then he said, if I went to the restroom, how will we find it?" he told the court.

While confessing to the charge on Wednesday, August 30, Moyi pleaded with the court to sentence him, arguing it is unknown when he would excrete the ring.

Onkoba directed the case to be mentioned on Monday, September 4, following the application by the prosecution.
