Johnson Sakaja Throws General Badi Under Bus Over KSh 16b Pending Bills Left By NMS

Nairobi - Governor Johnson Sakaja is persuaded that the county may have lost billions of shillings under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

The NMS took over the management of the capital city in 2020 and was headed by Major General Mohammed Badi.

NMS left behind KSh 16 billion in pending bills despite receiving funding from the national government and collecting its own source revenues.

Sakaja has questioned how the huge bills accrued within such a short time.

“There are a lot of things that NMS didn’t get right. They were getting KSh 27 billion from the national government and collecting more from the county every year. How is that after just two years, they left a pending bill of KSh 16 billion?

The county boss called for a forensic audit of NMS operations, adding that it wasn't their burden to carry.

He insisted that its NMS pending bills should not be a burden to the county since it operated under the Office of the President.

I have directed that a proper forensic audit is done and those pending bills be settled by the executive because we cannot carry a burden that does not belong to us,” he said.

The controller of budget in 2022 revealed that Nairobi County amassed KSh 40 billion more pending bills for 2021/2022.

Nairobi’s pending bills jumped from KSh 54.32 billion to KSh 99.06 billion for the year ending June 2022.

Unknown people disrupt Sakaja's function

In a separate incident, chaos was witnessed in Baba Dogo Primary School in the Ruaraka Constituency during a feeding program event.

As the master of the ceremony was making announcements, commotion behind one tent was witnessed as unknown people chanted inaudible songs.

Members of County Assembly asked the crowd to keep calm and give the governor time and space to implement his projects.

Sakaja and his team were launching a school feeding program dubbed 'Dishi na County'.

"Our children are missing a third of their education, our parents are stressed and the economy is bad. The stress of providing lunch for your children has now been removed," Sakaja said.
