Its primary objective is to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the formulation of practical, transformative solutions essential for promoting climate-compatible development in Africa.

Africa Climate Summit is compromised?

According to them,

"The Africa Climate Summit is compromised, lacks legitimacy and shows no indication of addressing the real and worsening climate crisis."

The release further stated that the policies presented during the summit are anticipated to perpetuate the exploitation of African resources, leading to the further concentration of power and wealth among a select few individuals.

Given the situation, there was a pressing requirement for a grassroots-driven organisation and a policy approach centred on the well-being of the people.

The approach was essential to promote alternative paths for climate and development that prioritise the interests and needs of the broader population.

Juliani headlines climate concert

The assembly included a People’s Climate Concert and a cultural evening vigil observed in the African way to commemorate victims of climate disasters and climate activists, serving as a reminder of the urgent need to prioritise climate action.

What was pledged for climate action?

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) pledged $4.5 billion (KSh 675 billion) in clean energy investments in Africa on Tuesday, September 5, at a landmark climate summit to showcase the continent's potential as a green powerhouse.

President William Ruto used the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi to shift the narrative on the region, presenting the clean energy transition as a unique opportunity for Africa - if it can attract the financing to realise its potential.

Sultan Al Jaber, who heads the UAE's national oil company ADNOC and government-owned renewable energy company Masdar, said the investment would "jumpstart a pipeline of bankable clean energy projects.
