A man wearing dark eyewear and holding a walkie-talkie grabbed Marindich by his waist from the statue and frogmarched him to an unknown location despite protests.

The video received a backlash from netizens who noted the comedian had disrespected a national hero.

"Content creators are doing the most," the video was captioned.

Marindich's arrest a skit

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Marindich noted that the video was all about content creation and was not a real arrest.

"Hiyo ilikuwa ya comedy tu (It was all about comedy)," said Marindich.

The Kalenjin comedian's manager Tula Chemoget who was behind the camera during the incident confirmed the arrest was only a skit.

Netizens reacted to the video, and below are some of their comments:

@joe_sobera:

"Desecrating a national monument."

@GeorgeYOUniq_:

"This is wrong."

@Itswanzalapetro:

"Who was creating content there? Him being arrested has more content than him trying to dishonour the national heritage."

@MannMach:

"Sasa hii ni content creation gani? There's a need for creativity, not this."

@NG_tha_One:

"We are slowly becoming the US where every antic is chased for online clout."

Arap Marindich trends in Zambia

In 2022, Marindich's hilarious facial expressions were used as a meme by a Zambian news outlet.

The media house shared the photo while posting memes after Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal for England in the Euro 2022 women's final.

Kelly was so engulfed by emotion after scoring the second goal in extra time that she removed her jersey.

The comedian's face was used to show anticipation just as Kelly started removing her top, but then the second shows dejection after it dawned on fans that there was nothing to see underneath.
