The county disaster management team showed up at the scene to rescue them with the help of the onlookers.

No fatalities were reported from the scene.

The victims were rushed to the Kericho County Referral Hospital for first aid and subsequent treatment.

Such an incident, though of a higher magnitude, was reported in a school in Trans Nzoia a few years back.

Saboti school's toilet collapse

In other news, Sukwo Primary School in Saboti was closed after 16 toilets collapsed on a weekend.

Four other toilets at the school developed cracks, posing a danger to the users.

Trans Nzoia West sub-county Director of Education Calendar Simiyu confirmed the closure and urged stakeholders to help build new toilets.

According to Simiyu, the toilets collapsed due to poor shape and the bad nature of the soils owing to the current rains.

The director of education warned that other schools from the region were likely to face a similar challenge if rains would continue to pound.

Parents would then hold a crisis meeting before leaving the school with their children.

The school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman David Plasio said parents agreed to raise some money to build two toilets as a short-term response to the challenge.

He said parents were worried about the effect of pupils staying away from school as that will affect their performance.

“We have established the reasons why latrines are collapsing as the nature of the soil which is not compact, the construction of the latrines was poor,” he said.
