Kilifi - Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah has softened his stand on President William Ruto engaging with Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.

The National Assembly Majority Leader observed that having one-on-one negotiations is a good thing, praising Ruto for asking Raila to meet him at the negotiating table.

Ichung'wah was critical of Raila's demand for a mediator when he meets with the president, stating that there is no need for a mediator when discussing Kenyan issues.

However, the MP has placed conditions on how the dialogue between the two political heavyweights would be conducted.

He explained that Kenyans wanted the talks to be public for everyone to witness what the two would be talking about.

"The Kenyan people are now telling you, and I've seen them in many platforms around the country, saying, as much as you can engage with the former prime minister and those on a side, please and engage with him, publicly, in a public forum, where Kenyans will be witnesses of the issues that you shall be discussing," he said.

The legislator demonstrated that the talks would involve the two leaders sitting in a room with a camera as they engaged.

Ichung'wah said the talks would then be beamed on screens nationwide for all to watch and listen to the ideas meant to help Kenyans.

"We want to make it easier for you, your excellency, you will not never need a big meeting like this. If you get two seats, your seat, his seat and a camera, then you project it live on TV. We shall be able to watch all over the country and ensure that the issues you are engaging on issues that touch on Kenya," he added.

The lawmaker said the ruling alliance was okay with Ruto engaging with Raila but on matters that touch on how to revive the economy and issues that touch on the lives of Kenyans.
