Lamu: MCA, His Wife Attacked By Suspected Al-Shabaab Assailants While Travelling

• A Member of County Assembly from Lamu county and his family were attacked by suspected al-Shabaab militants
• Hindi MCA Jamas Njaaga and his wife were travelling in their car when they were sprayed with bullets by the assailants
• Special forces in the area rescued them from the attackers' hands and rushed to the hospital for medical attention

Lamu - Suspected al-Shabaab militants have attacked a Member of County Assembly from Lamu and his wife while travelling.

Lamu West Deputy County Commissioner Gabriel Kioni confirmed the attack on Hindi MCA James Njaaga and his wife, who were reportedly taking their daughter to the hospital.

According to a coast-based radio Mo Radio report, special forces in the area rescued them from the attackers' hands, and they were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The MCA's wife has since passed on following the attack at Nyongoro in Lamu.

According to journalist Ali Manzu, she died while receiving treatment in Mombasa.

Following the incident, vehicles heading to Mombasa from the area were asked to stop at Witu.

Investigations into the incident have since started as police launch a manhunt for the attackers.

Form Three student among those killed in terrorist attack

A little over a month ago, suspected al-Shabaab extremists also attacked Salama and Juhudi villages, killing five people brutally.

In the 7pm incident, that occurred on Saturday, June 24, the militants dragged the victims from their houses and tied their hands and legs with ropes behind their backs before executing them. They would then burn five houses.

Among the victims of the attack was Barack Hussein, a Form Three student at Bakanja Secondary School.

Hussein's aunt Pamela Akoth Ogutu said the over 30 assailants were armed with guns, pangas, and knives and donned military regalia.

8 officers killed at Garissa-Lamu border

Similarly, on June 13, eight security officers died after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over a landmine.

The Special Branch officers were on a security patrol in Bodhei along the Garissa- Lamu border.

"The bodies have been recovered, but their identities have not yet been established due to the force of the explosion, which reportedly dismembered their bodies. The vehicle was also destroyed," a police report stated.
