Narok - It's now exactly one year since former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati announced the 2022 presidential election result on August 15.

However, Chebukati’s world came crumbling in the full glare of the public just before declaring William Ruto as the president-elect.

Chairs were hurled at him, the lectern flung down the auditorium, and delegates whisked to safety in what quickly spiralled into an altercation between GSU officers and supporters of the Azimio La Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions.

Amid this, Narok senator Ledama Olekina was among Raila Odinga's cronies allegedly trying to bar Chebukati from announcing the results claiming they were rigged.

How Ledama Olekina was rescued

However, the heavy presence of police officers and other security forces quelled the situation, enabling a smooth operation afterwards.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, Ledama was forcefully penetrating through a crowd to the backdrop of the dais to where Chebukati and other officials had disappeared to.

A section of people on the dais was seen trying to hit Ledama with some objects when officers jumped into the situation and took him to safety.

"It’s been a year … I am proud of myself and I would do it again to defend the free will of the people…. I will never forget August 15th, 2022," Ledama captioned the video on his Twitter handle.

William Ruto trounces Raila Odinga

Ruto was declared the winner with 7,176,141 votes, against Raila, who had 6,942,930 votes.

In hindsight, the happenings were a culmination of a tense campaign period that had the country in its throes.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that some bit of altercation was witnessed at the national tallying centre after the agent for Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate Gladys Boss Shollei was accused of photocopying forms 34B before sliding them to the verification table clerks to be counted.

He also revealed that some of his commissioners had been injured and were receiving treatment.
