When Lewi Karanja from Kirinyaga county went inside a morgue to visit his friend, he was shocked to see how the attendants were mishandling the bodies.

Lewi scored B Plain in KCSE

There and then, a seed was born inside him, and he knew he wanted to be a morgue attendant for the rest of his life.

"I have been looking for a morgue attendant job for a very long time to no avail," he revealed to TUKO.co.ke.

Lewi comes from a very humble background, and despite scoring an impressive B plain after Form Four, he couldn't proceed to college.

Lewi's parents didn't have money for further education

"My dad just told me we don't have money and I should just proceed with an automotive course at a local garage. There were young siblings behind me who needed to go to college," said Lewi.
"Since then I have not gone back to school and now just work to support my young family," said the father of one.

The 24-year-old is now asking for a paying opportunity at any morgue or for well-wishers to help him with a better job so he can cater for his family and still go to school to become a mortuary attendant.

Lewi has experience working in a hearse service.

The day body fell out of a drawer

Elsewhere, Filinda Kamau, a mortician at the Egerton University Funeral Home, showcased her job on TikTok.

Filinda said she enjoys her job as a mortician though it has cost her friendships and family who opposed her choice of career.

Speaking on Citizen TV, she recalled how she was left traumatised after a body unexpectedly fell out of a drawer, causing her to flee.
