Mike Sonko Says He's Ready To Take Care Of Baby Sagini After Family Abandoned Him

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has said he is ready to take care of baby Sagini after it emerged that the little boy has no place to call home.

The young boy has been under the care of the children's department after his eyes were violently gouged out in December 2022, leaving him blind.

Taking to his Twitter, Sonko expressed his heartbreak after learning that the three-year-old boy had no one to care for him.

The flamboyant politician said he was ready to take care of the little boy and sponsor any vital medical needs he may have.

"I cannot sleep because of this sad story of baby Sagini, who is now homeless in Kisii just a few days after his relatives were jailed for gouging his eyes. I kindly ask permission to take care of Baby Sagini and see if I can team up with other well-wishers to sponsor his medical needs instead of him being abandoned by the family and caregivers in Kisii," he said.

Main suspects in baby Sagini's attack sentenced

This came just a little less than a week after the wheels of justice turned in Sagini's favour after his attackers were found guilty and jailed for the atrocity.

The main suspect in the torture of Baby Sagini was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the heinous crime he meted on the three-year-old boy.

Maina Ochogo, who is the minor's cousin, was found guilty of the charges that involved gouging out the little boy's eyes.

Baby Sagini's aunt Pacificah Nyakerario was sentenced to 10 years, while Rael Nyakerario, the grandmother, was jailed for five years.

The two (Pacificah and Rael) were found guilty of being accomplices in attempting to protect the main suspect from facing the law.
