Busia - Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims by the opposition that President William Ruto’s government has sidelined other communities in state appointments.

Mudavadi, who was speaking in Busia on Saturday, August 26, during the launch of Mulukhoba Fish Landing Site, said the head of state has gone out of his way to include everyone in his government, including those from opposition strongholds.

“People have been alleging that President William Ruto’s government is not inclusive, but that is not true. We have people from all over. For our neighbours (from Nyanza), we have our brother Eliud Owalo (CS ICT), we have Raymond Omollo (PS internal security), Sylance Osele (Gov’t delivery) and many more,” said Mudavadi.

“Just recently, the president appointed Humphrey Mulonga as the new KRA boss. He has also appointed Renson Ingonga as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Still, the president has approved the appointment of Andrew Musangi as the new Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) chair.”

The former vice president said those claiming the Kenya Kwanza government fails the inclusivity test were peddling lies for political mileage.

The president also appointed General Ogolla as the Chief of Defence Forces (KDF). Is this a person you can say he doesn’t believe in inclusivity? Let us shun this cheap propaganda,” said the chief prime cabinet.

Skewed government appointments

The Kenya Kwanza government has been under sharp criticism from the opposition and civil society over its state appointments.

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Party Leader Raila Odinga has particularly been critical of Ruto’s choice of cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and parastatal heads, arguing that most were from two ethnic communities, the Kikuyus and Kalenjins.

“Since he got into office, he's been employing people. But he's employing people from two communities alone. If it is not from Mt Kenya, then it's mostly the Rift Valley region. If you look at the gazette notice, you'll see that is what is happening. We are saying all Kenyans are paying their taxes." Raila said during a past interview.

However, Mudavadi used the president’s five-day tour of the Western region to dismiss the allegations and outline some of the achievements the government has recorded in the past year.

Some of the projects that Ruto will be launching include the Mulokhaba Fish Landing Site, Alupe University Library, Emuhaya sub-county hospital, a 220-unit affordable housing unit in Lurambi and the commissioning of an industrial park in Bungoma.
