Mombasa - Kenyans have a rare chance to visit the world’s largest floating library, MV Logos Hope, which docked at the port.

The ship, which is ferrying over 300 passengers, also carries more than 5,000 books of various genres.

According to the KPA, individuals from all walks of life will have the exciting chance to tour the ship and acquire the numerous books available. Capital News reported.

"Members of the public will get an opportunity to tour the vessel and purchase the many books on offer,” Kenya Ports Authority noted.

MV Logos Hope measures 132.5 meters in length, 20.8 meters in width, and accommodates a carrying capacity of 12,519 gross tonnes.

KPA Managing Director William Rutto lauded the visit of MV Logos Hope to the port.

Ruto praised MV Logos Hope's visit to the port of Mombasa, highlighting that it symbolises Kenya's advancement in regaining its status as a central point for cruises in the Indian Ocean circuit.

According to GBA Ships, MV Logos Hope is in Mombasa until October, and will then travel to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Maputo, Mozambique. The exact dates are subject to confirmation.

Ukraine ship docks in Mombasa with 51,000 tonnes of wheat

On October 17, 2022, a ship ferrying 51,400 tonnes of wheat docked at the Port of Mombasa to replenish the country's dwindling grain reserves.

According to the Ukrainian Agricultural Consulting Company, the ship dubbed Super Henry, arrived at the coast, and it was part of the seven ships that left Ukraine in a grain initiative to send grains to countries facing hunger.

Under the grain initiative, Ukraine planned to deliver over 1.1 million tonnes of wheat to African countries.

Besides Kenya, the ships carrying over 120,000 tonnes of wheat are destined for Ethiopia, Yemen and war-stricken Somalia.
